Orthopedic Products Under Development
The orthopedic and sports injury markets have recently experienced increased demand towards adoption of biologically active treatments, which seek to stimulate the body's own capabilities for regeneration of tissue at the injury sites. The Company is developing a family of product candidates for the treatment of a variety of orthopedic applications. BioMimetic Therapeutics' GEM OS product candidate combines rhPDGF-BB with a proprietary resorbable delivery scaffolds.
GEM OS1 Bone Graft Matrix
BioMimetic is developing GEM OS1 for use in open surgical treatment of fractures and bone fusions where the use of bone graft, a material used to augment bone healing, is indicated. GEM OS1 is designed to be placed directly into an open surgical site to stimulate bone regeneration. The combination of the two GEM OS1 components, recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (rhPDGF-BB) and Beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), is key to the product's overall effectiveness. rhPDGF is intended to provide the biological stimulus for tissue regeneration by stimulating the in-growth and proliferation of osteoblasts, cells responsible for the formation of bone, while β-TCP provides a framework or scaffold for new bone growth to occur. GEM OS2 Injectable Bone Graft
BioMimetic is developing an injectable product, GEM OS2 , for the treatment of fractures not requiring surgery and for prophylactic bone augmentation. The GEM OS2 product combines rhPDGF-BB with an injectable bone matrix. To learn more about the GEM OS product candidates, please click on a topic below: |
